The cider making process portfolioIt is said that, "the best cider you will ever drink is the cider you make yourself"

So it was with this in mind and an abundance of apples from our garden, the allotment and a neighbour's small orchard I decided to put this to the test and make my own cider.

What follows is a series of photos taken by my wife Margaret showing the process in action.

Cider making can be broken down into 5 stages:

1 Collection of apples!
2 Washing and sorting through the apples
3 Turning the apples into a pulp (scratting)
4 Pressing the apple pulp ( pomace) to extract the juice
5 Fermentation of the juice into a cider.
